https://depindakaaswinkel.nl/?p=175031 Why De Pindakaaswinkel chooses Green Friday
This year, we at De Pindakaaswinkel asked a new question: can we also make a positive impact on the earth during Black Friday? We are always working on sustainability: from a completely CO2-neutral production facility to the use of reusable glass jars and metal lids instead of plastic. What many people do not know is that the peanut plant is a special plant that gives food back to the soil, which keeps the soil fertile. Peanut butter is therefore a super sustainable product and we would like to draw more attention to it. That is why we have decided to make Black Friday Green Friday !
What is Green Friday?
Green Friday is our way of showing that sustainable choices can be fun and tasty. Instead of encouraging consumption of products that are bad for our planet and offering crazy discounts, we focus on green initiatives that are fun for you and nature! During the weekend of November 29th to December 1st* , both in our stores and online, you will receive when you buy 3 jars of peanut butter or more :
- A free mini Christmas tree (Picea Glauca) to plant yourself.
- A surprise jar of peanut butter with a unique flavour, so that no peanut butter has to be thrown away.
By doing this, we want to make a difference together with you. In this way, we not only give a special Christmas gift , but we also invite you to participate in a challenge that is good for the earth!
Growth instruction
Want to give your mini Christmas tree a good start?
- Then plant the tree within two weeks, you can use an empty peanut butter jar for this! Do not hold the top of the tree with your hands. The chance that it will have something left is big because of the skin grease on your hands. Therefore always hold it at the bottom.
- Fill a pot with nutritious potting soil, make a small hole for the roots and make sure the tree is stable.
- Place the tree in a light to mildly sunny spot.
- Water regularly, but certainly not too much (!) if the water cannot drain from the (peanut butter) jar. Is your tree shedding more needles than normal? Then it may need more water.
- Do you have an outdoor space? Then you can put the tree outside in the ground after the holidays. The fir is winter-hardy, and does well outside! Dig it up again next year for Christmas, and put it inside :)
This way your tree can grow well and in a while you will have a unique mini Christmas tree!
The Challenge: Keep your mini Christmas tree alive for 1 year!
Want to increase your impact? Then join the challenge! We challenge all peanut bosses to take good care of the Christmas tree for at least a year. Put the tree in a (peanut butter) jar and give it regular water, sunlight and a little love. Next year, during Green Friday 2025, we ask you to share how your tree did. Among all participants who successfully cared for the tree, we will raffle a luxury XL gift box as a reward for your efforts!
The Picea Glauca: A special tree with many benefits
The Christmas tree you will receive as a gift is a 1-year-old Picea Glauca, also known as the white spruce or Canadian spruce. This small tree of 15 cm can be up to 35 cm tall after a year and will grow into a beautiful tree of 3 meters around 2040. But the Picea Glauca is not just any Christmas tree! The roots of the Picea Glauca help to strengthen the structure of the soil and prevent erosion, keeping the soil fertile. Of course, the tree also absorbs CO₂ and produces oxygen, thus contributing to cleaner air and a healthier living environment!
The surprise jar: Enjoy sustainable peanut butter
In addition to the tree, you will also receive a surprise jar of peanut butter! These are jars with minor cosmetic flaws, such as a wrong label, a small dent in the lid, or an off-flavor. During production, we ensure that the pipes are cleaned by pumping peanut butter through them. This creates a mix of flavors that is not suitable for regular sale, but is still delicious! In this way, we offer you a surprising taste experience and prevent waste. Want to try more of this type of peanut butter? Then take a look at our leftover package .
