Peanut Day! An ode to our favorite plant: the peanut plant.

Michiel haalt een pindaplant uit de grond

https://depindakaaswinkel.nl/?p=153143 September 13 is peanut day!

It's time to put our favorite plant in the spotlight. We're going to delve deeper into the story of the peanut plant and how it produces our peanuts.

The simple process of the peanut plant.

Like any plant, the peanut plant starts from a seed in the ground. After two weeks, it germinates into a small plant with yellow flowers and after pollination, pods with peanuts inside grow underground. Eventually, the peanuts as we know them emerge from these. Harvesting these peanuts is a labor-intensive process. After the pods have ripened, they are pulled out of the ground by hand. After this, the pods are dried and cleaned to separate the peanuts from the rest of the plant.

Fun fact: “Did you know that a peanut is not a nut? It actually belongs to the legume family!”

From peanut plant to peanut butter.

After the pods are harvested, the peanuts are removed from the shell. The peanuts are then roasted and then ground into peanut paste. We do not add any unnecessary ingredients to the peanut paste, just a little bit of coconut oil and sea salt, for the best taste and the best smoothness. Palm oil does not enter our jars! Our peanut butter is a super healthy snack, packed with good nutrients. Our peanut butter is handmade with a lot of love, which makes every jar unique.

The benefits of peanuts (and there are many ;-))

  1. The peanut plant is a sustainable crop! The plant needs little water and is a zero waste plant. After harvesting, not only the peanut is used, but also the plant is ground and used as feed for livestock. Even the shells can be used to make fuel.
  2. Peanuts are super healthy! They are packed with proteins, healthy fats and dietary fiber. They also contain important vitamins and minerals.
  3. Peanuts can help lower cholesterol levels.
  4. You can make peanut butter with it. The tastiest sandwich spread!

Conclusion: long live the peanut plant!
