Entrepreneurial story behind De Pindakaaswinkel, the sequel

Entrepreneurial story behind De Pindakaaswinkel – The sequel

The challenge of making your own peanut butter

From the beginning, we made our own peanut butter from scratch. There was no blueprint for this, and it turned out to be a huge challenge – peanut butter is quite sticky! It was mainly a lot of thinking during the long hours above the jars: how could it be better and especially faster?

In that early period I had a lot of help from Bonne van der Laan, who saw the hype and wanted to experience it. In the beginning it took us ten minutes to make one jar. Fortunately, as a farmer I had kept bees and I thought that peanut butter was very similar to honey in terms of stickiness and thickness. So we were able to get materials from the bee sector that accelerated our production process.

Everything was made at the kitchen table (the peanut butter was up to my bed!), after which it was passed on to the store to be sold or packed. Jars were not labeled, labels were crooked or missing, shelves were empty… There were still plenty of minor flaws. Still, people liked it so much and found it so tasty that there was a line every day for the first three months. Some customers drove four hours there and four hours back for a jar of peanut butter. Even a conductor jumped out of a full tram during her shift to quickly buy a jar. What an honor!

From hype to quality

In the long run it is of course important that the product is really good, otherwise the hype will quickly be over. I had this well imprinted in my head and I did everything I could to create a top product.

My goal was to make the tastiest peanut butter, but I also think healthy eating is very important. That's why I chose the combination of taste and quality: only nicely roasted Argentinian peanuts and a little bit of coconut oil formed our starting recipe. Even the peanut butter flavor with the least peanut still contains 88% peanut!

I regularly test other peanut butters, and every time I am happy when I eat ours afterwards. And that goes for not only me! At the moment we score almost 5 out of 5 stars on both Google and Facebook, and we are very proud of that.

Peanut butter as the best choice

We do our best to tempt you to skip your hazelnut spread or cheese sandwich and choose peanut butter. That's why we have both savoury and sweet flavours. Peanut butter is much healthier (even our most sugary flavour contains five times less sugar than hazelnut spread), much better for our planet and super tasty!

I hope you too will fall in love with our homemade peanut butter, so I can say to you: good job, Peanut Boss! 🥜😊
